Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities, an accredited Non-Profit agency since 1945, is a leader in serving the poor and vulnerable within Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties. Under the auspices of the Diocese of St. Petersburg, it serves between 10,000 and 20,000 people annually through three umbrella Ministries of Mercy – Foundations of Life, Friends in Need and Shelters of Hope – with services including but not limited to providing food and shelter for the homeless, affordable housing for the elderly, migrant farm worker and low-income families, immigration and citizenship assistance, respite care and basic medical screening and care, and pregnancy and adoption assistance. Home Makers of Hope

“Because no child should sleep on the floor.” Home Makers of Hope collect donated furniture and gently used household items to furnish homes of low-income families. Volunteers are needed to do pick-ups, organize goods in the warehouse, deliver and put together furniture, decorate homes and more. Mary Help of Christians Center

Mary Help of Christians Center is a Catholic and Salesian center that aims to serve all people in the Tampa Bay area, especially the young and the poor, with complete dignity and respect.  Through the Center’s work, people have experienced the love, service, and joy that guides and moves the Salesian mission at Mary Help of Christians.

Our mission is to evangelize and educate young people, especially those who are poor and at risk, in the image of St. Don Bosco.

Our retreat center, located in Hillsborough County, Tampa, spans over 140 acres and is surrounded by nature.  We are conveniently located off I-4 at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.  Our property is blessed to include a parish, school, dormitories, gymnasium, pool, soccer fields, basketball courts, and a barn with a variety of family friendly animals, all located on a beautiful lakefront campus.

Meals On Wheels of Tampa

Meals On Wheels of Tampa is a local, privately funded organization which prepares and delivers hot, nutritious meals to Tampa’s homebound and senior neighbors.  Persons quality for the service if they are 62 or older and/or they have difficulty leaving their homes and are challenged to prepare meals.  Hot meals are delivered to recipients’ homes 5 days week, between 10am-2pm by a friendly volunteers.  Frozen meals for the weekend are delivered on Friday.  There are 3 menus to select: Heart Healthy, Diabetic and Renal.  Nourishing meals are prepared daily with fresh ingredients that meet senior nutritional standards and dietary guidelines.  A volunteer driver delivers meals and provides a friendly check-in on each person, to positively impact a recipient’s well-being.  The cost of the meals is determined using a sliding scale based on income and expenses.  An affordable meal plan can be established through a telephone intake interview.  The process to get on the program is quick and easy.  Call the Meals On Wheels of Tampa office, 813-238-8410.  Meals service may begin 1-2 days after intake process is complete.

The need for Meals On Wheels of Tampa volunteers is growing!  Want to be part of a great community volunteer opportunity?  Join the team to deliver meals to senior and homebound neighbors in Greater Tampa.  Volunteer as often as your schedule allows.  Convenient pick up locations are spread throughout Tampa.  A volunteer shift takes about 60 to 90 minutes to complete.  Monday through Friday opportunities for individuals and/or groups are available.  Volunteer drives must be 18 years of age, complete an application, and attend a short orientation (in person or virtually).  Volunteer drives use their own vehicle and gas.  Community service hours are available for students delivering with an adult.

When you are a Meals On Wheels volunteer, you are delivering much more than a nutritious meal—you are delivering human connection, care, and compassion.

Metropolitan Ministries

Provides care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency. Health Buddies

Provide support for homebound Tampa Bay seniors suffering from chronic illness. Loneliness can take a real physical toll, equated to smoking 16 cigarettes a day. Loneliness compounds the effects of chronic illness, increasing anxiety and causing hospital readmissions that would otherwise be preventable. Telehealth Buddies are trained to provide support and companionship through telephone reassurance. TelePals

Support isolated and homebound Tampa Bay seniors through regular telephone calls. Foster Grandparents (FGP)

Tutor children in literacy and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) with Foster Grandparents! A Foster Grandparent volunteer is someone who is 55+ with time, love, and understanding who enjoys connecting with children. Receive training on virtual platforms with likeminded volunteers and become that extra special support system that children need. Each year independent assessments of student progress – performed by teachers, not by Seniors in Service – consistently show that at least 95% of children we serve improve literacy and/or social-emotional skills. Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul enables members to put the Gospel message into Christian action within out parish and community area. Members are called to increase their own spirituality through the mission of serving those in need with material aid, encouragement and prayerful support. This includes providing financial assistance for rent, utilities, food, clothing, medicine and other supportive services.

Non perishable food items are collected for the SVDP food pantry on the 1st weekend of the month. Volunteer opportunities are available at the SVDP Food Pantry and Thrift Store serving those in critical need with food, clothing and other necessities. St. Michael’s Legal Center

Tampa Hope

Tampa Hope is Catholic Charities’ new transitional housing community for Tampa’s homeless. Located in Ybor City, it currently has 125 tents and a common area, where residents live safely with access to meals and social services on their way to permanent housing and work. Volunteer needs include meal pickup and delivery, Saturday service days, hosting resident activities, donating meals, and more as they grow. Donations of personal items, outdoor games, and small kitchen appliances are also welcomed. THORN Ministries

We are a ministry which feeds the homeless in Tampa and works internationally in Samoa with the disabled.  MERCY ….is a reflection of love for Jesus.

We are a ministry which feeds the homeless in Tampa on Sundays throughout the year.  We also try and provide other things they may need like clothing, hygiene supplies, over the counter meds and lots of LOVE. We believe that the homeless should be treated with love and respect.  We look at them as family members who have been injured and we try to love them back to life.

Renew Haiti

Renew Haiti is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization and an outreach ministry of CTK.

The purpose of this ministry is to build a bridge of God’s love to our sister parish in Sainte Suzanne, Haiti and the community that it serves. This is accomplished by awareness, solidarity through frequent visits between the parishes, spiritual growth, and support for the parish, health clinic, three schools and other areas of community development.
